“In engineering we teach the language of
design using the precision of mathematics as well as concepts from many
areas of engineering and applied science. With community service, we hope
to teach students the language of the heart and of the soul in order to
complete their preparation to enter the engineering profession as
responsible citizens and accomplished engineers”
Rising energy costs will affect low-income families who live predominantly in the inner
city more than families with higher incomes. With careful choices in design and with
new technology, the possibility of affordable, energy efficient housing can become a
reality – even in the inner city. Involving engineering students in the design and
construction of this demonstration home will raise the level of awareness of environmental
stewardship for the next generation of engineers. After completion the house will continue
to be a source for data and studies.
